Sometimes I need to lift really heavy things. A bed-mounted hoist would be a good idea - but there's a problem. I carry 4x8 sheets of plywood in my truck bed, so I need to be able to remove the hoist. How do you engineer something that is strong enough to lift half a ton on a cantilever... without welding it onto structural steel?
